Helpful standards for reviewing link opportunities, choosing relevant placements, and understanding how search-engine guidance applies to the LinkExchange marketplace.

THE PURPOSE

Better decisions for every placement

LinkExchange offers a WordPress-based marketplace where participating site owners can review opportunities to host links and advertisers can request placements using credits. The platform also describes managed guest and author posting services.

This page explains the documented workflow, offers editorial considerations for publishers and advertisers, and identifies important search-engine considerations. It supplements — but does not replace — the Terms & Conditions.

OUR GUIDANCE

Four principles for thoughtful linking

Use these practical checks when deciding whether a proposed placement belongs on a page.

01

Topical relevance

The link should genuinely fit the surrounding content and give readers a useful destination.

02

Editorial judgment

A relevance match can inform a decision; the publisher still needs to assess whether the placement is suitable.

03

Proper attributes

Check whether the relationship involves compensation and apply the appropriate link treatment.

04

Realistic results

A published link does not guarantee indexing, referral traffic, search visibility, or ranking improvements.

THE WORKFLOW

From matching to a live placement

LinkExchange’s self-service plugin uses content and available matching signals to surface opportunities. The documented process includes publisher approval and subsequent placement verification.

Hosting earns internal credits subject to the applicable transaction rules; advertisers can use credits to fund requested placements. Credits are not the same as a promise of an SEO outcome.

1
Content is indexed

Participating published content is used to identify potential contextual opportunities.

2
Opportunities are suggested

The marketplace considers relevance and available campaign or quality signals.

3
Publishers review

In the documented plugin flow, hosts review proposed funded placements before accepting them.

4
Links are checked

Placement verification checks whether an agreed link is present and configured as agreed.

PUBLISHER CHECKLIST

Review the context, not just the link

For each proposed placement, these are sensible editorial questions to ask before accepting it.

✓

Recommended checks

  • The target page helps readers explore the surrounding topic.
  • The link makes sense in the existing paragraph.
  • Anchor text accurately describes the destination.
  • The destination is accessible and suitable for the audience.
  • Commercial relationships are disclosed and qualified where required.
!

Practices to avoid

  • Inserting links into unrelated or low-value content.
  • Repeating exact-match commercial anchor text unnaturally.
  • Using automated or excessive exchanges to influence rankings.
  • Misrepresenting a website's traffic, metrics, or ownership.
  • Assuming every verified placement meets search-engine rules.
SEARCH-ENGINE CONSIDERATIONS

How to handle link attributes

Google distinguishes ordinary editorial links from advertisements and other compensated placements. The relationship behind the link matters, not only the markup used to publish it.

Compensated placements

Google’s published guidance says links created as part of advertising, sponsorship or other compensation should use rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow".

The LinkExchange credit-based placement model makes it important to evaluate whether a placement involves compensation, even if no direct cash changes hands.

Editorial & untrusted links

Links should have contextually appropriate anchor text. Google documents rel="ugc" for user-generated content and rel="nofollow" when a site does not want to endorse or associate itself with a destination.

Adding attributes does not automatically make an excessive or manipulative link-building program acceptable.

Check the published HTML.

Placement matching, editorial approval, and link verification are separate from search-engine compliance. This page does not assert that the current plugin automatically sets rel="sponsored" or another specific attribute for every credit-funded placement. Review the applicable agreement before changing an existing placement.

USE & RESPONSIBILITY

What site owners should know

Link quality is an ongoing editorial and technical responsibility, not a one-time checklist.

Credits and verification

Credits are LinkExchange’s internal unit for marketplace transactions. The published Terms describe credit settlement, verification and circumstances under which credited amounts may be reversed. Verification of a link’s presence does not independently certify the destination’s editorial quality.

Publisher control and site standards

Website owners remain responsible for their own content and links. Review proposed placements against your editorial standards and applicable policies. Do not assume a topical match replaces review of the destination.

Managed guest and author posting

LinkExchange separately describes managed services involving publisher selection, content drafting and editorial review. Publisher approval does not eliminate the need to mark compensated or sponsored links appropriately.

No guaranteed search result

Search engines evaluate links independently. A live link does not guarantee indexing, traffic, rankings, or any other SEO outcome. Search-engine rules can change and should be consulted directly.

Concerns or questions

If you have questions about a placement or the service’s terms, use the published contact page and refer to the Terms & Conditions for dispute and transaction provisions.
